Late submissions will not be eligible for competition.Violence committed by a person who is or has been in a social relationship of a romantic or intimate nature with the victim is dating violence.According to a 2011 survey by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 9.4 percent of high school students reported being hit, slapped or physically hurt by their partner within the 12 months prior to the survey.The mock trial exercise enabled students to discuss the importance of recognizing teen dating violence and address misconceptions surrounding it.
Along with staff, several campus clubs helped prep for the big day, including the art club, anti-bullying club and GHOST (girls helping other sisters thrive) club.
Teens often think some behaviors, like teasing and name-calling, are a “normal” part of a relationship.
However, these behaviors can become abusive and develop into more serious forms of violence.
“I had about a dozen students show up here on their holiday off yesterday when they didn’t have school, bless their hearts, and they came and decorated this whole campus,” Smith said.
